SINNERS' RESPITE
TOBACCO COMPANY

FOR THE BODY, FOR THE SOUL

Our History

Sinners’ Respite Tobacco Co. was founded in [REDACTED] by Todung Sigorga, a man who believed that even in the harshest of circumstances, people deserved a place to rest, recover, and reconnect. Our story begins far from the city lights, in the ancestral lands of Si Anjur Mula-Mula, where the Sigorga family once lived among their kin. Following a dispute with the ruling authority of the time—led by the formidable Ainiar Gunungmulia—the Sigorga clan chose exile over abandoning their principles. They left their home behind, carrying with them only their craft, their resilience, and their sense of duty to others. What began as a humble hut on the edge of a quiet village soon became something more. Todung and his wife, Borjua, offered finely prepared chewing tobacco free of charge to those in need, while also using tobacco leaves in traditional healing practices for villagers injured during times of unrest. Their home became a place where people could gather, recover, and find a moment of peace—no matter the turmoil outside.Through the years of colonial hardship and occupation, the Sigorga legacy endured. The next generation, led by Todung’s son Anggiat, carried the family tradition into the growing city of Medan, establishing a small but beloved tobacco shop. It was here that Sinners’ Respite began to take on its modern identity: a sanctuary not just for rest, but for those seeking something… harder to articulate to the outside world.Faced with uncertain times, Anggiat ensured the survival of the business through a partnership that allowed Sinners’ Respite to endure where others could not. Since then, our shop has had a unique way of finding itself exactly where it is needed most—whether in a bustling city or a quiet corner of the world.Today, under the stewardship of Melanchthon “Mel” Sigorga, the current Chair, Sinners’ Respite continues its tradition of craftsmanship, hospitality, and quiet discretion. You’ll most often find us in the historic Old East district of Gotham City, though our doors have been known to open in unexpected places. At Sinners’ Respite, we believe a good smoke is more than a luxury—it’s a moment of stillness in a restless world. Whether you come seeking quality tobacco, conversation, or simply a place to sit and breathe, you are always welcome. No reservations required.

Meet our Chair

Philip Melanchthon Sigorga — more commonly known as Melanchthon Sigorga, or simply “Mel” to those who know him best — serves as the current Chair of Sinners’ Respite Tobacco Co., continuing a family tradition defined by resilience, discretion, and an unwavering commitment to those in need. The only son of former Chair Sarda Sigorga and Judith Sigorga, Mel was raised within the traditions of the family business from an early age. Exposure to the craft began long before he formally stepped into leadership, with much of his early life spent observing, learning, and refining a sensitivity to the more intricate aspects of the trade—skills that would later define his approach to both product and service.Known for his sharp instincts and disciplined work ethic, Mel quickly distinguished himself as a prodigious figure within his field. His academic journey reflects this commitment: he earned a full-ride scholarship to study Agriculture at Institut Pertanian Bogor, where he developed a deep understanding of cultivation, sourcing, and sustainable practices. He later completed his MBA at Wharton School, further strengthening his ability to guide the business in an increasingly complex world.Despite these accomplishments, Mel is known among patrons and partners for maintaining a hands-on approach. Whether overseeing sourcing, refining blends, or attending to guests directly, he remains closely involved in the day-to-day experience of Sinners’ Respite.Under his leadership, the establishment continues to evolve while staying grounded in its founding principles: craftsmanship, discretion, and care. Mel is often described as someone who understands what is needed before it is fully expressed—a quality that has earned the trust of a diverse and loyal clientele. While he rarely speaks about his personal life, those close to him note a lifelong discipline and focus that extends beyond the visible aspects of the business. It is this quiet depth—paired with a willingness to shoulder responsibility—that defines his tenure as Chair. He can most often be found in the shop itself.
